Beyond Adam and Eve

When we are born into this world, we are labeled by our genitals; whether we plant the seed or accept the seed and bare the offspring. We are different as male and female, and yet have been given equal opportunities as children of the Eternal. For male and female, no matter one’s time or one’s culture, there must exist equality in economic, educational, social and political opportunities – unfortunately this rarely happens. Without these opportunities how else can we learn and grow?

We separate ourselves by our race, color of skin, socio-economic class, sexual orientation, and religion, but first by our gender. We are out of balance in man’s relationship to our Creator, and we are out of balance in the feminine and masculine energies, the yin and the yang. Instead, we are defined by our genitalia from our first breath. The genitalia connect us to a mate, the genitalia reproduce the next generation, the genitalia produce pleasurable sensations, the genitalia … what is it about the difference between the male penis and the female vagina that divides us so? This is a question for all ages.

Mating is a natural act. Are we so afraid of our natural impulses that we must repress and attempt to control them by creating cultural rules around who can mate with whom? And what happens when we repress and control? That which we do rises up even greater than before. Nature will triumph unless tempered by complete surrender in Spirit. There is nothing wrong in nature, only in repression by control. As example, it is common that when one diets and controls what one eats, one loses weight. However, the weight lost is often gained back, plus a few extra pounds.

Many religions have rules surrounding mating. These laws are designed for us to learn and to grow in relationship with the Divine. They are not commands of judgment of others and punishment of what we perceive as offenses and sins. This is not love. Religious rules and spiritual practices are merely tools designed for us to shatter our attachments and dissolve us into Oneness, whether we are male or female or another.
