Healing the World - What Can One Small Person Do?

I went to a climate summit yesterday. Lots of despairing data coupled with hopeful messages. Collective action needed. Belief in scientific data a necessity. What was a most significant development in my mind was the coupling of climate action with the necessary inclusivity of all skin colors, cultures, economic classes, and genders. Panelists spoke on systemic racism and the need for change. There was also discussion on how to dialogue with those who do not believe climate change is a necessity.

We must allow indigenous elders to lead our movements and efforts. I wondered how little me could be included as part of the solution and therefore, the movement. It was also a bit overwhelming. Change the world.

How many years have those in the western culture participated in a system of inequity, one that benefits a few at the expense of the many? Thousands of years. I am not sure when it started, but this mind set of exploitation of creation and the countless creatures sharing Mother Earth with us is as old as the beginning of written history. Those with this mindset, many of our ancestors, conquered other peoples. Some of these cultures were more inclined to develop technological advances that gave them the advantage, for instance, gun powder. These cultures went on to multiply and conquer the earth.

If we want to change the world, we must collectively change our minds, along with our biological natures that entice us to form groups that instinctively battle other groups for control and power and resources.

Exponentially more and more individuals are invested in desiring and working towards these issues, like climate change. Our earth and its creatures are more top-of-mind these days and this is positive and gives us hope. However, we are a divided people. How can we work with Nature and change the trajectory when about half of us don’t even believe there is a problem?

As more seek and grow in consciousness, spreading kindness and the concept of living gently on the earth with all of Creation, I wonder will this be enough to turn the tide? We need to evolve consciously to a higher baseline through which we can then work and live with and in Eternal energies, shifting the collective mindset from one of conquering and group battling to one of inclusivity, harmony, and the equal sharing of resources.

Growing individually in Eternal consciousness and reaching out in love and respect to those who hold differing mind sets, extending welcome for their ideas and input, would assist the shift. Can social media, such a prevalent factor in creating the divide, help to also reverse it?

I am so grateful for those who sacrifice their personal time and energy to work towards a loving and inclusive vision of a future world. I continue to pray for a miracle. I invoke the Eternal One and humbly ask for help. This is one thing small me can do.
