Gifts of Self

Whenever we give to another, we give to self. The family is an extension of self, the first extension. So giving to family is the closest thing to giving to self, but also the first place one learns how to, and experiences, giving. Within the family each one has responsibilities. Fulfilling a responsibility is not giving per se, but a family does not function smoothly without each member carrying out his or her responsibilities according to his/her talents.

A gift goes beyond and involves a sacrifice of self – no matter how small. We are linear beings. So, sacrifice entails a giving of time. Since time can also be spent in earning of money/resources to materialize the gift, time is ultimately the gift. We are expending our time for another in some fashion. This includes service as well. Service is a gift when one expects no return on his or her sacrifice of time and energy.
All gifts are symbols of love. All gifts are gifts of self to another. How expansive and open can we be to both give and receive gifts of spirit? We are conduits of spirit one to another. Some are more blocked than others. Our gifts to one another of self and love are a key to unblocking one in need of healing.
From birth to death we are the same eternal being, but we live in bodies that mature and decay and die in a linear realm. Our purpose is to recognize the eternal and consciously live sacred lives, bringing the eternal heartbeat through into the material or linear world until we no longer perceive the physical. All is eternal, sacred, energetic Love. There is no "you" and there is no "me". All giving is giving to Spirit, to others and self.
One feels the flood of the emotion while existing in a moment. The Eternal Heart suffers in the linear. The Eternal Heart experiences all the pain of the physical – both the pain of those unconscious to the Sacred and the pain of those sensitive to the Sacred, yet still suffering by living in the physical wheel of life and death.
According to the Christian tradition, God chose woman as his vehicle of entry into this world. And He chose to come in through a family and to be raised by a family. We are part of the Eternal family – if we only recognize and bow before the mysterious magnificence of being in the family of the Eternal with all of creation.
The world seems on the brink of destruction or at least the human species. And it’s time to change our perspective.
