Masculine and Feminine: A Balancing Act

The energies of spirit create the physical. There are female energies and male energies. We all have a combination of both energies, but often have a predominance of one or the other. We are born into these bodies based on the difference of one small part of one chromosome, but that small part seems to make a world of difference – at least to us. What is confusing is when one is seen in a male body but has predominance of feminine energies and vice versa. Those that are born male or female but have a predominance of the opposite energy are here to remind us that the difference between male and female is slight and what is most important is not so much the predominant energy or the body type, but the humanness of each individual.

While both male and female traits crossover i.e. men have both masculine and feminine traditional characteristics and vice versa, women have both feminine and masculine. With each individual the balance is different; lines are not rigidly drawn or set in stone. Yet there are characteristics deemed more feminine; others more masculine.

Traditional feminine characteristics include: creative, intuitive, nurturing, receptive, cooperative, emotive, gentle, compassionate, empathetic, communicative, responsive, and relational.

Traditional masculine traits include: active, analytical, assertive, courageous, bold, adventurous, leader, initiator, ambitious, competitive, decisive, forceful, independent, provider, and stoic.

In today’s market-driven society, masculine traits are considered valuable, while feminine are considered not as important, perhaps even a hindrance. Protecting and providing are treasured while nest-building, birthing, and rearing the next generation are not. We need a reset. This does not mean we swing to the other side of the spectrum, but only that we move closer to the middle – and achieve a balance – where all is esteemed of value.

We need to create a society where the feminine traits of gentleness, nurturance, and intuitiveness are as much an asset as the masculine. Where women join in partnership with men in creative efforts to build, not merely earn. When woman joined the workforce and began climbing the corporate ladder, she brought out her masculine traits in order to compete with men on their own platforms. Women can do anything from fighting wars, to leading countries – women want to have the same opportunities as men, especially as decision-makers. Now we must interweave feminine traits with traditional masculine roles.

But who is caring for the children? What happens to home, family, and community? We need to rethink what is considered valuable. Women want to be men because male roles have been perceived to be of greater importance and value to the community. Women do not need to be men; we just need to be who we are … and that is in relation to spirit.

Women want to be in the world with the freedom of men, but our biology still makes us women. We battle within and without. Can we escape our attachment to biology? A way to escape biology is to evolve spiritually – to make serving God and Spirit and others more important than the sex of one’s physical body.

The duality of male and female can either battle or unite – and the result of this union is creation. The world of the physical realm, where masculine traits are more valuable, has created an imbalance in male and female energies. To end the battle of the sexes, we must first change our view of the world from one of man’s dominion to one of God’s and surrender our management and control of this world to our Creator, to the Eternal One. To change the perceived value of the feminine, as well as the overly appraised value of the masculine, we must change from a market-driven to a next-generation driven society or tribe.

It all started because we chose to believe and trust in ourselves more than God. To change we must open ourselves, surrender to the All, and trust and believe in God more than ourselves in what we think and do. Many do this now; we need many more to do so in order to create anew this placed called earth. When we model ourselves after our Creator, who is both male and female, we grow in balance.
