Sleeping With The Enemy

When one group seeks to control another for whatever reason, the group perceiving themselves to be controlled (especially if unwillingly) will rebel against the laws of the repressors. Laws do not force a person to behave a certain way; however, fear of the consequence of disobedience to the law may. As a community we need rules that all are in agreement with. These rules have consequences, often natural consequences. There is a buy-in to the rules and an agreement upon the making and the enforcing of these rules. Ideally, one person or group does not seize control of the community and then force others into obeying.

A leader is responsible for the strategic planning for the protection of community members from destructive forces without and within ( often through the making of laws and their enforcement). Ideally the people who lead are most humble servants of the Eternal. It is not a position of glory. It is not a position of praise or of reputation – it is a position of service first to the Eternal, then to All. It is one of the lowliest of servants. The trouble comes when people see this position as one of strength and power; more desirable than humbling oneself and one’s position of leadership before our Creator.

The role of leader requires a balance of male and female energies. The predominance of one energy over the other caused from the perception that one energy is of greater value, creates imbalance and ultimately chaos. We need balance within and without, a cosmic dance, embracing All. Of course, any leader must be connected heart and soul and mind with God and say each moment of each day, “Thy Will Be Done.” For one is truly not the leader; God is the leader... AND when we understand that and not only understand but embrace it, then we will have true leaders in this world. When one realizes that leadership is not any more valuable than that of picking up the mess or garbage of another – sometimes they are one and the same – then one can place leadership and all roles in their proper perspective. All are valuable. Those willing to serve with a heart open to receiving God – that is what is important – not the task one is doing.

Community members share all in common. All have their needs met if the tribe as a whole has enough resources to meet each one’s needs. The leader may fill the role of distributing resources. If he is a good leader, she/he ensures all have their needs met before taking for him or herself. She takes the least for herself, giving the best for those with the most need – those poorest in health may need more nourishment, someone with children may need more for the children. A leader having this sense of obligation to his people ensures the quality of life for each and the success of the next generation … it helps to propagate the community and strengthen it, producing harmony and trust.

A leader who takes first and takes the best and shares only his scraps of leftovers does not ensure his community continues in perpetuity. A leader who takes the most and best but does share a minimal amount to keep community members alive creates discord among his peoples – the result will be that he will not be a leader for long, unless he uses force.

A leader who kept the best and/or the most resources for him or herself would soon find oneself an anathema, intensely loathed among the people thus producing a corrupting environment. Greed is not a healthy motivator to success.

If wealth is not a tool in the process of distributing wealth, it has a better chance of success. Otherwise, those that have the most, have the most say and sway the rules to favor themselves and then democracy distills society into wide disparities of wealth as we see today.

The wealthy often govern because the one with the most resources yields the most power and decision making of where the resources will be allotted. Because of greed, those elite may not easily share what they have, and they take steps to ensure the wealth is not distributed to those most in need (the masses). Often lies are dispersed about the poor’s unworthiness to be given anything more than they have (like the fable of the welfare queen). All must have equal share or opportunity to have the resources for living. What matters is the defining of what is necessary and what this equal share is for all peoples of the world.

The power of distribution must be with those who love others more than themselves, who seek to serve others and ensure that all have what they need for a life.

A society needs a few who make the decisions on distribution – we cannot all have that power – it would be chaos. Therefore, a position in society would be one of distributor separate from the role of leader. All roles in society are significant and important to the whole and the distributor is just one of these roles. It is only when we see the distributors as having more power than others that we find ourselves in imbalance and the distributors taking more for themselves and being influenced by those having more. The cycle continues until there are a few with exceedingly great, obscene wealth while masses fear having enough to survive. Then a revolution occurs and another deciding group takes control of distributing the wealth and the wheel continues to turn To step off the wheel we must devalue the distributor role and balance it as of equal value to all other roles.

Our United States government attempts this balance by having the executive, legislative, and judicial branches – those that make the laws do not enforce while the third interprets. Laws are about both the distribution of resources and the interaction among individuals so one cannot harm another without fear of punishment. What it did not foresee is how those with the most resources make the laws, enforce the laws, and interpret the laws. We need a balance and fill these positions with those who have no ties to the corporate world. We require separation of church and state – why not separation of market and state? It seems ironic what was developed to act as an overseer of the marketplace is now intertwined in an intimate relationship.

It takes both the masculine and the feminine to create the next generation and both have equal value in providing for and nurturing/raising of a child. In the same way it also takes the masculine and the feminine, to create a community (nation, world). Community roles include: leader, lawmaker, enforcer, protector and defender, resource procurer, healers, educators, communicators, etc. In this model, both the male and the female would have equal access to roles – collaborating to unify and create a whole out of individuals and individual families.
