Stop the Buy In

In the times of the reaction to the coronavirus, there are a lot of people crying out for change. However, many have differing visions of what this change will entail and look like.

Some protest without a vision of what the change they are shouting for will look like. We just know we don’t like now. We have differing opinions of what we don’t like about the now and what needs to change. We march in protest of the is, but don’t have a shared visual of the will be when the change happens.

We have concerns about women’s rights, the health of the planet, animal rights, minority rights, indigenous rights, the right to own a gun, the right to have an abortion versus the right to protect an unborn child, the right to express sexuality differently, the right to one’s own religious mores, the right to protest … but depends on the protest whether one is for or against, the rights of prisoners and the injustice of the judicial system, sexual harassment, the right to healthcare, the rights of the poor, the rights of the differently-abled, the right to freedom, and the list goes on.

With all our differences, how can we unite to create change? Is there a change that encompasses all? Can we collectively buy into a vision? If we had a unified, detailed vision of what the changed world would be our ideal, the next step would be to determine how do we go from here to there?

My vision of utopia includes dissolution of heartless corporatism. Decrease income disparity, mindless consumption, and the placing human wants over the needs of the earth and all its creatures, deaf to the cries and blind to the suffering of others (both human and all our relations). Plus the vanquishment of financial institutions that charge higher than necessary interest on loaned money.

Current market structures maintain the status quo. Current market philosophy has people, especially the lower middle class and poor, buy into a system that keeps them from having bare minimum to live on. The buy in has religious tomes as the ones who want abortion to be illegal have partnered with the ones who support the wealthy. One issue alone determines how many vote without a holistic view that incorporates the needs of all of humanity, including the health of our home, the world.

One step we could take would be to stop supporting those corporations that make a profit at the expense of providing livable wages for employees. Trust that there will be enough income for all if we begin to create a financial system that hurts these large corporations Stop purchasing more than needed. Make non-essentials non-existent until all have enough to live without stress. Cap corporate wages to reasonable disparity levels (if we need disparity). Increase minimum wage to create a living wage for a family, with one person working 30 hours a week.

Change focus of corporations to sustainable-friendly. Do not support unless they do no harm to the environment or any of its creatures. Change to universal health care that is no longer tied to employment. Abuse of another is no longer tolerated in the workplace or anyplace. While the wealthy are treated the same as the poor in the judiciary system. Power is no longer tied to wealth.

How do we get here? We change our mindsets and stop supporting the current financial framework. Stop the buy in literally.

Ignore the cries of the politicians if they attempt to continue the brainwash that we need to support the current marketplace or the crisis will be so huge we will all perish. The ones that will perish are the wealthy as the current system crumbles. Support local and sustainable. There will be jobs, but the jobs may be different than current jobs. Have no fear for yourself or your family – there will be work.

Simultaneously, if someone is hurting from lack, give, give, and give more. If we joined and stopped supporting that which hurts us all and give to those in need, we have a chance at change. Do all with compassion and love, without blame and judgmental labeling of those who disagree. Love all no matter their opinions and beliefs. Unity, collective action and a shared vision of a new world is the path to change.
