What's the Purpose?

God is Love. A purpose of living in this material world is to learn to be love in order to unite with God. A belief in God and striving to live at one with the Divine adds meaning to this world; otherwise it is a bleak existence with periodic transports of fleeting pleasures.

Henry David Thoreau wrote, “The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.” Despair is a never-ending cycle when we focus only on the pleasures and sufferings of the physical. However, these same pleasures and sufferings can transport us if we put them in perspective with awakening to the Eternal and its wonderful Spirit. When we offer all – our pleasures, our joys, our sufferings and even our very breath to the One, then this physical world has meaning and peace fills our souls as we walk on this earth. We can choose to serve ourselves or we can choose to serve God. There is nothing else but these two choices. The one leads to a path fraught with stumbling rocks and thorns; the other leads to joy.

Service to God is service to all our relations on this earth: other humans, the animals, plants, oceans, trees, mountains, the very earth herself. We can live in service or we can live for ourselves which is a very lonely place to exist. Active love creates energetic love. When we live for anything other, we add to the imbalance of our current world.
