Where Can We Go From Here?

The modern-day world presents a vast array of symptoms of disease. One theory is that we live in this predicament because of the choices our forebears made when metaphorically we ate of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. We chose to no longer live in harmony with Nature's law or to trust in the Eternal.

At some point in our history, we became detached from our instincts. We believed ourselves above the laws of nature and put ourselves above God, attempting to dominate the world. Instead of living as one with nature, we sought and continue to seek control over Her. The change to an agrarian society required more land privately-owned. Land and resources grew to be a source of competition and then war. This group of humans expanded to now be a plight on mother earth.

History depicts the change from hunter gatherer society to agriculture society as evolution. It is the same for the transition from industrial to technological to the age of information. But has anything really evolved? Currently, we have swarmed the majority of the planet, with only small pockets of indigenous peoples remaining. Many other human populations, as well as many other species, have been wiped out of existence. With our current mindset focused on our need to control and manage nature, we have endangered both ourselves and our world.

Air, water, and food sustain life. All should have access to what was once plentiful and shared. We wrested control of the manna God blessed us with, and when we took control a few placed the manna under their control. Those without access had to work by the sweat of their brow to receive what was at one point in our history the right of everyone – access to life-sustaining food. If one does not work, one does not eat; this birthed the work ethic.

We could say the same of health care. At one time, all had access to the tribal healer. No one was turned away for lack of payment. Today, in some parts of our world, health care is the right of the wealthy. Those without access are turned away at the door and left to gasp for breath.

In what ways have we evolved? Are we kinder, gentler, more loving, living closer to the Eternal? The history that we learn in schools portrays circular patterns. Humans make the same mistakes again and again. Perhaps we will eventually learn from them and dismount from the ever-turning wheel.

Evolution incorporates a change in consciousness; as example, growing more aware of our connection to who we really are – children of the Eternal. We have the ability to evolve our consciousness and live open to and eventually in unity with God. Evolution, or perhaps enlightenment is a better descriptive, has nothing to do with man-made things or ways.

Surrender all to God and trust in His Will; only then will all be well. Cast off the original sin of pride that man is above the laws of nature and trust again.
